Messaging at the Marina for DMC Chicago's ADCM
DMC holds an off-site All Day Company Meeting twice per year where everyone takes the day off to team-build, share knowledge, and spend time together. Some of our recent All Day Company Meetings involved WhirlyBall, high wall climbing, and indoor trampolines. One meeting last year ended with everyone laying around on picnic blankets listening to managers recounting escapades from DMC's early days. Inspired by that, this year's fall ADCM broke the DMC Chicago team into group discussions led by five different managers: Frank's Fiascos, Dear Deborah, Tim's Tips & Tricks, Rick's Roundtable, and Matt's Messaging Magic.
As DMC continues to grow and diversify in both the technologies we work with and the locations we service, our interactions with customers and with each other are constantly evolving. Several of the groups covered techniques for having successful interactions with customers, clearly communicating ideas, and resolving conflicts. DMC employees were randomly grouped for each session so that every discussion was unique with different insights.
We then broke for lunch and spent the rest of the afternoon hanging out and enjoying the sunshine at Belmont Harbor. Our autumn ADCM generally overlaps with the Chicago Air and Water Show's practice sessions, so conversations throughout the day are punctuated with the sound of roaring engines as fighter jets pass overhead. From Frisbee and Uno to Bags and Blue Angels, it was great to just hang out and spend some time together outside of the office. Several groups also went out onto Lake Michigan in Frank's boat for water tubing and sunbathing.
