My name is Grant Anderson, I am a project engineer here at DMC.
My girlfriend and I frequently brew beer. She does most of the brewing and I do a lot of the tasting. And you know, naming the beers. We also like to go around Chicago and find new places to eat in new restaurants. We've done meads, we've done mellow ales, we've done a scotch ale, a Belgian ale, Christmas ale, we've done a bock, we did an imperial stout, so done an IPA pretty much every style.
The most unique experience at DMC would probably be the environment here compared to the environment at my old job. We have much more of a community here. A lot of social events we do together. There seems to be a lot more camaraderie.
LARP-ing is Live Action Role-Play. It's a pretty wide range of what actually falls in there. From the guys that dress in the full-out metal armor and attack each other with swords like Society for, which is the Society for Creative Acronizism. There is also what are known as boffer larps which is a similar idea but they attack each other with foam swords and shields. Most of what I do is closer to basically improv acting but with a...you usually have a little mechanics behind to resolve any conflicts. And your character usually is a goal. But that's mostly what I do. It's basically you take that table top like Dungeons and Dragons or whatever. And you basically write a live interaction version that strips down the rules and does much more on the personal interaction rather than the rules interactions.
