DMC’s client wanted to migrate over 200 mailboxes to Office 365 and upgrade from Lync 2007 to Skype for Business. This also included the migration of distribution groups, contacts, and resource mailboxes. To ensure a smooth migration from Exchange on-premise to the cloud, DMC authored PowerShell scripts to set required values to synchronize mailboxes to their Office 365 tenant.
Unlike many migrations from Lync on-premise to Skype for Business, DMC had to work around user policies which did not include admin rights to each individual’s PC. DMC’s Consulting Services team solved this problem through a bulk edit of SIP ID attributes prior to creating new mailboxes in Office 365.
DMC utilized BitTitan’s DeploymentPro to auto-create an Outlook profile for each end user. The beauty of DeploymentPro is that it takes the current Outlook profile and moves it to a secondary profile. Then the new O365 profile becomes the default profile. This is something that you cannot do very easily manually and in this case, it did it automatically 200+ times. Azure Active Directory Sync was used to sync users from the on-premise Active Directory to Office 365.
Another challenge to this migration concerned the client’s DNS provider, which was also their internet service provider (ISP). Because of this, the client did not have the credentials required to make the appropriate DNS changes. DMC worked directly with the ISP to coordinate DNS changes used for the cutover. This project was completed from start to finish in 3 weeks.
