Who doesn't love a little friendly competition with coworkers? DMCers have participated in a variety of sports leagues over the years, from beach volleyball in Chicago to kickball in NYC. There's no shortage of opportunities for us to bond outside of the office, but nothing compares to that feeling of teaming up for something other than that engineering project you're making things happen on.
Chicago Competition
DMC Chicago's colleagues have kept busy teaming up after work for various sports leagues. We kicked off with a Tuesday night bowling league at small neighborhood brewery. Burnt City Brewing is home to a variety of craft beers, some delicious pub grub, the best fried pickles in a five-mile radius, and an eight-lane bowling alley. We had a great time cheering each other on and learning some new alley cat tricks. The team boasted some mean curve balls!
One bowling league highlight was during Halloween. We were lucky that Halloween 2017 fell on a Tuesday night so we could all dress up together!
Left: Chicago's bowling league hit the lanes in cosutme together. Right: Dodgeball was a success.
The Five D's
There was a ton of interest in the Chicago office to play dodgeball. The greatest debate during the dodgeball season was the team name. It came down to DDDDDMC - an obvious play on the company name, but also a nod to the great "the five D's of dodgeball" made famous by the renowned 2004 film, Dodgeball - "Dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge."
We laughed together, we cried together, had some epic fails and some epic wins. Overall, dodgeball was a great success. The tiny elementary school gym we played in happened to be walking distance from a pizzeria. Their 1/2 price pies on Wednesdays was a most excellent coincidence!
Celebrating a kickball win at Sheffield's
Kickin' It
Just a few weeks ago, our summer kickball team won the second place in the league! We made it all the way to the championships. While we didn't take home the gold, we still had a great record of 6-2! There was an awesome amount of participation from a wide array of DMCers. We even had some of the new hires come to play during their stay in Chicago for training.
To celebrate our great season, we headed over to a neighborhood bar and grill after the final game. We shared some appetizers, drinks, and laughs. I think it's safe to say, we really got a kick out of kickball this summer.
