Houston's Fall Fun Indoors
Avoiding the oppressive Texas heat of August and September, the DMC Houston team has found their fun in the air-conditioned paradises of the great indoors. Here's what we've been up to lately.
Trivia
One of these such paradises is Christian’s Tailgate, a Houston-area bar chain that hosts trivia every Tuesday night. Although it’s always been close, the DMC ‘Budgie Smugglers’ (look it up) are the two-time reigning champs and hold a 3-0 career record at the location.
Live Music
Last week, we found another haven at McGonigel’s Mucky Duck, a live music joint just a couple blocks down the road that has become a mecca for Americana and country musicians from all over the southwest. On stage that night was Bob Schneider, an Austin-area balladeer who breaks up his set with his own particular style of tastefully sophomoric humor. We came for the music but stayed around drinking and laughing until they kicked us out to clean up for the next show.
Board Games
Additionally, some of the Houston team have been meeting for weekly board games nights that have included Pandemic, Rummikub, and the office favorite, Master Plan. We recently gathered for our first play-through of the Battlestar Galactica board game. After almost four hours of back-stabbing and dangerously low morale, humanity’s fate was left up to pure chance and a 50/50 die roll helped the humans eke out a victory over their dreaded Cylon foes.
