This spring, DMC held our first Yearly Office Event (YOE) in Houston. This was a great way for the Houston office to show employees from other offices a good time down south. Due to the careful planning and fun agenda assembled by DMC Houston, their visitors felt as if they were on a private Texas tour!
The Rodeo
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo was an amazing start to our trip. Most of us had never been to a rodeo before, so it was a cool experience. We got to see men wrestle bulls, drink lots of beer, and eat great food.
We saw many bulls up-close and personal, and we were amazed at how big they actually were!
One of our favorite parts of the rodeo was the Mutton Bustin' at night. Instead of adults riding bulls, the Mutton Bustin' features children that ride sheep. Once the child was placed on top of the sheep, the sheep started running in attempt to get the child off.
River Rafting
Another highlight of the trip was rafting down the Guadalupe River. Everyone loved tubing outside with coworkers and plenty of beer.
Along the river, we stopped at the 'Party Rock'. This was a great photo op and almost everyone's favorite part of tubing down the river.
The Party Rock has been officially claimed for DMC and we can't wait to return to it!
Austin
We made our way down to Austin over the weekend for SXSW Music Festival. Not only did we hear great music, we got to explore downtown Austin.
We enjoyed walking around 6th street shopping and exploring. The streets were bustling with people and music. Us out-of-towners have always heard that Austin is a very lively city, and the reality lived up to our expectations!
Ryan and Deborah caught a show by James McMurty at the Continental Club while the rest of the DMC crew watched a concert in a hat shop.
The Food
It's true, everything is bigger in Texas. We made our way to Lockhart, Texas to get the best BBQ in all of Texas, Black's BBQ.
At Black's BBQ, we ate every single kind of meat that we could. The brisket was everyone's favorite. After all, it is Texas, and you can find brisket anywhere, even the gas stations! We saved a large bone after we were done eating for Travie, Leigh's dog, who was very appreciative. We also took home 1.5 pounds of brisket, which Ryan cooked with eggs for an outstanding breakfast the next morning.
In addition to barbeque, we had some other awesome foods. Peter had Torchy Tacos about three times that weekend. We also ate deep fried cookie dough, 14" deep friend smoked sausage corn dogs, chicken, and funnel cake at the rodeo. This was the rodeo's version of chicken and waffles.
We left Texas feeling very full and very satisfied. It was wonderful to spend time with our friends in different offices, and we can't wait for our next trip to DMC Houston!
