Hello Fall! Happy Hour at DMC
To welcome fall this year, DMC Chicago held a pie-and-cider party that was a great success. There were babies! And dogs! And cats! And most importantly, a wide variety of pies.
We ordered in pizza, and enjoyed apple and pumpkin pies homemade by application developer Jordan, who is well-known by now for his excellent pie-making. Unlike DMC's Denver team, which is arguably the most athletic of the bunch, we didn't do any exercise to earn it.
While our apple cider warmed in the CrockPot, attention turned to the middle of the room, where someone had started a round of CodeName, a word-relation card game. Free association aside, it was thankfully less Freudian than you might imagine - especially considering that many of us spiked our mugs of cider - and competition heated up quickly. The game, being largely subjective, was really quite challenging! The winning relation was “empire” to “center.” Do you think you could have guessed that?
Some dramatic moments happened. The aforementioned baby bonked his head and had to be placated with bread. The cat hid behind a couch more than once. Wiskie ate a lot of snacks “accidentally” dropped on the floor. The party interrupted some engineering work still going on after 5PM on a Friday. And almost all of the pie was consumed before the night was through (though just enough remained for a post-lunch snack on Monday).

In all, our party was an awesome way to say goodbye to summer (and our beloved rooftop deck, home of many happy hours!) while we prepare to deal with the brutal Chicago winter, and with DMC Houston’s climate-related taunts.
