One Snowshoe of a Welcome in Seventy Degree Weather
It’s been a whirlwind of welcoming at DMC since I started back in February. I had a Chicago welcome party, a Denver welcome lunch, a Denver welcome happy hour and then an official Denver Welcome Party in Rocky Mountain National Park. As someone who loves the great outdoors, I suggested to the team that we go snowshoeing in RMNP one weekend. No one had been snowshoeing yet, so it was also a great opportunity for DMCers to get their feet wet with a new activity.
I rented 20 pairs of snowshoes for DMCers and their significant others before heading up to the park, which at first seemed like it might have been a waste of time since the temperature highs for the day were in the low 70’s. But all the same we put on our snowshoes and trekked onto the trail – or what we thought was the trail. There was definitely enough snow to fall in knee deep, so that was reassuring.
After a while of loud, awkward snowshoeing (sometimes without snow) we arrived at a good resting point where Boris and I saw something really important, so we pointed at it.
And where we saw a tree that we decided looked like the Tree of Gondor from The Lord of the Rings.
And where we realized we weren’t on the trail we thought we were on. Oops.
But we kept on keeping on.
Eventually we were glad we had our snowshoes. As we neared the peak of our chosen trail the incline got steep and the snow got deep.
It was well worth the trek though: the frozen lake was a sight to see for sure.
All in all it was a successful event and I officially feel welcomed at DMC Denver.
