Kevin (DMC Chicago Intern), Ryan and I (both new hires for DMC Boston) all started at DMC on Monday June 16. After arriving, Ryan and I only spent two weeks training in Chicago. All the same, we were welcomed into the DMC family from Day One.
For our Welcome Party, we put our competitive spirits to the test with a sport that combines lacrosse, basketball, and bumper cars, well known to any DMCer as WhirlyBall. As a first time player, I was excited just to get my car to go straight and successfully catch and pass the ball. Ryan on the other hand, a seasoned veteran, played for keeps and attempted slam dunks despite warnings from the referee. Kevin, another WhirlyBall veteran, could barely contain his excitement to play.
Despite our varying levels of expertise, it was a good time filled with wings, pizza, beer, and banana wontons.
Although WhirlyBall was our official Welcome Party event, there was no shortage of other outings to make us feel at home: Friday happy hours, a Bike Week Activity Fund Event, and a Cubs game to name a few. Mark even let us in on the best kept secret in Cubs parking history, under a sworn oath of secrecy of course. Though this was probably unnecessary since we had no idea where we were anyway.
Ryan also made it out to see coworker Ryan Taylor's band, One Season, perform at The House of Blues for another activity fund event.
At the end of our two weeks, Ryan and I were treated to a farewell happy hour. Since I was already onsite with a client, I unfortunately couldn't make the party. However, Ryan had fun for the both of us, enjoying a couple beers, some games of bags, and the company of our fellow DMCers.
Now at DMC Boston, we feel just as at home as we did in Chicago, and we are looking forward to planning more events here!
