Joel earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Vanderbilt University and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University. He is skilled in robotics hardware/software development and control systems design. He performed graduate research at Vanderbilt in the Laboratory for the Design and Control of Energetic Systems and in his undergraduate performed research at Rice in the Mechatronics and Haptic Interfaces Laboratory. Outside of work Joel enjoys tennis, exploring new restaurants, traveling, and the occasional hike.
